My experience in the class IS101 has been interesting so far. I am having some troubles and also some successes. I am having trouble with the LabSim assignments because I can't run them on my CSN laptop. This has caused me to be behind on those assignments because I can't go to school every single day to finish them. I am also having trouble with Professor Wu's indirect way of having us do things, but I am getting used to that. Moving on to the good, I have been enjoying solving these challenges I am facing and living every day to the fullest. I have been very busy with school, work, and making music, but I am starting to slowly find habits to balance everything in a way I want. The skill I will be expanding upon is 1.4.13 Skills Lab: Practice Online Safety and Security. I was always curious as to how to block pop-up ads because I used to watch a lot of shows on my computer and I would get them all the time. When I was searching for ways to do that, I stumbled upon things like clearing my browsing history and blocking third-party cookies. Aside from using them in that situation, I don't have much experience on those subjects. But what I really found helpful is identifying scam emails. I always get emails and text messages like the ones listed in the example asking me to click some kind of link. The assignment helped me get a better understanding of how social engineering attacks work. That's all I have for now until next time, good bye!
Hi Salem! Like you, I am glad we tackled scam emails too. I became more careful with the emails that I’ve been receiving for the past few weeks and applied what I learned on how to identify a scam email.
ReplyDeleteHello Salem, I would like to offer my help if you are ever struggling with assignments and would be up to helping you if professor Wu is not available.
ReplyDeleteYou could not have said it any better. IS101 has been revealing, and I have personally learnt a lot with.
ReplyDeleteThe LabSim issues are definitely frustrating, especially when you can't run them on your laptop. But it's great that you're figuring out how to balance everything, like your schoolwork and music.
ReplyDeleteHi Salem,
ReplyDeleteI totally understand the struggle with LabSim and completing assignments on my laptop, as it rarely works the way I need it to. Just like you, I tend to stick with doing all of my coursework at school in the computer lab.
Salem, the part about spotting scam emails really stood out—my job makes it a priority to catch stuff like that too. It’s wild how convincing some of those messages can be. Definitely something that’s good to stay on top of!
ReplyDeleteHi Salem, I also found the lesson of online security very interesting. I also share the same interest in wanting to learn how to block pop up ads because I too watch shows or live sports on my personal computer. This lesson also allowed me to fully understand website cookies as it is something I would come across often and always agreed to even though I didn't understand what they were fully.
ReplyDeleteHey Salem, I feel the same way with the emails. I get so many emails and some are important but it does become annoying sometimes figuring out which is which.
ReplyDeleteHi Salem. When we started the semester, I had a laptop that did not perform well, so I understand your struggle. It is good you are learning how to sort out possible bad emails. it will be a useful skill.
ReplyDeleteHi Salem, great to see you balance out making music and catching up work.
